Mid Century Inspired Furniture

I started Alibi Woodworks as an idea.  I wanted to be able to create furniture that was true to mid century design aesthetics, but made to last a lifetime.  

Alibi Woodworks is a small custom furniture shop specializing in mid century modern inspired design.  Each piece of furniture is custom made, by hand, from solid domestically grown hardwoods.  Because it matters, I strive to incorporate FSC and sustainably harvested lumber whenever it is available.

I have been able to collect some great vintage pieces.  I have also had to wade through tons of furniture with chipped and peeling veneer, Frankenstein style restorations and museum price tags.  Finally, I knew that if I was going to get what I wanted, I would have to make it myself. 

Each piece is hand crafted, one at a time.

About me

Hi there. I’m David.  I am  a landscape architect, designer, woodworker and puppy wrangler.  I have had the opportunity to create some truly beautiful public parks, college campuses and civic spaces.  Alibi Woodworks focuses this passion for design and construction into one discrete task of creating heirloom quality and mid century inspired furniture.

When my wife and I bought our first home we lucked into an original mid century modern home with great bones.  The bad news was that it suffered from years of “deferred maintenance.”  As the remodel progresses I have set about populating our home with handmade furniture true to the spirit of mid century modern design.  This is my alibi.
